Speech by SALNAM President at Florence Doherty-Pianim Fundraising Dinner & Dance
By Abu Bakarr (Biggie) Kamara (pictured)
Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
I am very delighted to see you all here tonight, and on behalf of SALNAM, I wish to welcome you all to this fund raising event organized in support of Mrs. Florence Doherty Pianim, a member of our Sierra Leone community here in Winnipeg.
As you all know, Florence, the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Arthur Doherty, is currently battling with the after effect of cancer surgery. We are here tonight, to express our support to assist her and her family cover all out of pocket expenses related to the health challenges facing Florence at this very moment.
Also, we are here to demonstrate to the Doherty family, that we share their pain. Things have fallen apart and it is going to be difficult for the centre to hold together again in quick succession. All hands are needed on deck to show the Doherty family that we feel their pain as well. Sierra Leoneans are caring people regardless of our political squabbles or tribal affiliations.
Please note that our involvement in fundraising efforts does not end tonight. We are just getting started.
I encourage each and every one of you to continue finding creative ways to make this project as successful as it should be. Talk to your friends; talk to your neighbors, your workmates, and tell your girl friends to tell their friends about this project. Friends, this is our challenge.
