Behind the Scenes with Lans Omar - February 17, 2024.

From Winnipeg, Canada, respect to all my fans, fam, and friends!

The weekend vibes are here – Da Golden Child is back in the PegCity after two weeks of holidaying, SALNAM’s Youth Leadership Capacity Building Program kicks off today, what’s up with former president Ernest Bai Koroma? Boss LA appointment as Peace Ambassador in Sierra Leone in the question of the day, plus lots more. You're about to read another neck-breaking edition of “Behind the Scenes". This column is the radical thoughts of one guy called Lans Omar aka the “Golden Child” - born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Let's do this: First of all, my apologies to the entire readership for missing out on your favourite publication the past two weeks. As an editor/publisher, delivering the work to your fingertips is not a kid’s job at all; it requires an enormous amount of time, good judgment, resources, and clear-cut content creation. For some of you reading this who know about content creation, producing this media in a digital form doesn’t only require some professionalism in journalism but you have the know the current trend of digital content creation in this era.

Well, I was on holiday - playing around and shuttling in between chilling with the fam at Grand Forks, North Dakota, and hosting the MDQ Valentine’s Bash in Houston, Texas. I’m back in the game and ready to disseminate the news as it’s happening in real-time.

Switching gears: SALNAM is officially launching the Youth Leadership Capacity Building Program today Saturday, February 17, 2024. The event will take place at the ACOMI Centre at 200-301 Nassau Street, Winnipeg, MB. with twelve youths in the Sierra Leone community participating in a six-week leadership. The program is mapped out to enable the youths in the community to master foundational knowledge skills in leadership, interpersonal and social connections, etc.

Next stop: What’s up with Sierra Leone’s former president Ernest Bai Koroma? He left Sierra Leone on January 19, 2024, for Abuja, Nigeria, amidst a controversial coup he was “involved” in. The former president is still facing charges for his alleged involvement in the failed attempted coup on November 26, 2023. However, President Bio permitted him to travel out of the country on humanitarian grounds, citing specialized medical reasons. Since January 19, 2024, no word has been heard of the former president and he has disappeared into a thin air. Anonymous sources from the United Nations and Ecowas have informed me that Ecowas had brokered a deal for Koroma to go into a self-exile in Nigeria if the charges were dropped to ease the tension following the November unrest. Nonsense, pure nonsense – a former president on the run.

Question: Wait a minute, rapper Boss LA has been appointed as Peace Ambassador in Sierra Leone, correct? What the heck is a Peace Ambassador office? SMH. This is just a waste of time, money and resources. Anyways, it’s not my F**King business.

Finally: Again, the weekend is here! I’m heading out to a 10:00 am wedding today with my “Pretty Woman”. A friend at work is getting married today and that’s where I’ll be chilling for the wedding ceremony and reception. Sorry fellas, I’m chilling with wifey today.

Fellas, Not too sure of any chill-out in the community this weekend but you might want to go check out The Forks for a date with your loved ones/friends. If you plan to have a drink, you know the rules, right? If you’re drinking, don’t drive – if you’re driving, don’t drink. Have a great weekend! Lonta.

I'm out of here!

Cheers fellas!

The Golden Child.
